Turning a new Leaf

Is time to make a fresh start and come back to my blog as I look back and evaluate where I am in my journey.  Blogging has always been a hobby that has allowed me to express myself by sharing my thoughts, struggles, successes, and failures.  It gives me the opportunity to share my goals and hold myself accountable by putting them out there for the world to see (or at least whoever reads it).  To me, the half point of the year is a good opportunity to take stock of where I am with my goals and what I committed to accomplishing this year.  This is the time to change what is not serving me right or bringing me joy so I can focus my energy elsewhere.  I started the year with a laundry list of resolutions, including the staples:  losing weight and saving money, along with some lofty plans to accomplish them.  I would say that I tried to stick to those plans for a few months until life happened, and I fell off the wagon.  Year after year, the story feels the same and yet I don’t seem to change enough to have a different outcome.  Is time to change the narrative.  By turning a new leaf, I hope to change my behavior for the better so I can have a positive outlook on life.

How am I changing the narrative?  By making small but significant changes in my daily life, such as:

  • Enjoying physical activity.  Whether is a 20 mins ride, a walk to Starbucks or taking the stairs instead of the elevator, movement will be part of my daily life.
  • Managing expenses by sticking as much as possible to my budget.
  • Meditating and praying to help ease stress.
  • Practicing gratitude to focus on positivity.
  • Eating healthy, regular meals and staying hydrated.
  • Prioritizing sleep.
  • Journaling or blogging.  Writing is therapy, so this is my way of taking care of my mental health.
  • Enjoying quality time with friends and family and just having fun.

Every new day is an opportunity to start fresh and is never too late to change your life.  To quote one of my favorite Peloton instructors, Emma Lovewell: “Change is inevitable, growth is optional”.  Choose to grow and learn no matter how old you are. Age is just a number, not an excuse that keeps you from reaching your goals.
